Counseling and Therapy at Parkaire
Parkaire is known for its scientific, eclectic, and integrative therapeutic and neurological expertise. Our passion and reputation are tethered in relationship therapy with our diverse clients and families. Developing a trusted, safe, and secure relationship is the foundation that promotes progress and success within the therapeutic journey. We continue to pride ourselves by working cohesively and collectively as a team within Parkaire and with external allied mental and healthcare practitioners.
Parkaire Consultants offers research-based, up to date therapeutic programs for children, adolescents, and adults who have been diagnosed with neurological disorders including ADHD, OCD, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, High Functioning Autism, Tourette Syndrome, Language Impairments, Visual-Sensory-Motor Dysfunction, Learning Disabilities including Dyslexia, Executive Dysfunction, Memory Disorders, Processing Speed Disorder, Deficits in Theory of Mind including outside of Autism, and Social Communication Disorder.
Due to the research on transforming the function of these disorders and their impact on the individual, all Parkaire therapists are trained in specific Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT) for differing disorders, e.g., Exposure Response Prevention Therapy (ERPT) for OCD, Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention (C-BIT) for Tourette Syndrome. General Cognitive Behavioral Therapies are not specific enough for many disorders. In addition, Parkaire therapists specialize in addiction, Brainspotting therapy for trauma, eating disorders, family therapy, behavioral difficulties, self-soothing techniques, medical education, floor time for treating Autism, sports therapy, and conversion therapy.
Most of the disorders we work with need cognitive restructuring due to adverse distortions and confusing the symptoms with negative thoughts such as “bad,” “stupid,” “lazy,” or “crazy”. It is very important to help separate who the client is and their character from their medical symptoms. At Parkaire we are able to take complex neurological disorders and help children through adults understand and learn what to do to offset the negative impact of these disorders.
There are many techniques in addition to cognitive therapies. The techniques used in therapy have a wide range of modalities. One tool or strategy does not often fit a client coming into Parkaire. So, each therapist uses literature therapy, art therapy, sports therapy, behavior therapy, cognitive play therapy, social learning curriculums, self-soothing strategies, emotional regulation techniques, perspective taking, educational therapy, transition skill development toward being an independent adult, and many other modalities depending on what is meaningful to the individual.
Parkaire’s goal for every client is to learn to care about themselves, have good family relationships, friendships, become independent, and be successful.
