Do You Have a Child Who is Sluggish in the Morning and
Overly Energetic in the Evening?
Help May Be On The Way!
Have you found that your child has trouble getting up in the morning, especially during the school year? Have you also noticed s/he is sluggish in the afternoon and then may have a burst of energy late in the evening or struggles with meltdowns? Some of these cycling issues might have to do with brain function, nutrition or medication but sometimes it can be a symptom of chronic stress also known as adrenal fatigue. The adrenal glands regulate cortisol levels in response to stress. Research shows that children with neurological disorders often have dysregulated cortisol levels that may lead to difficulty in managing daily stressors.
Are you interested in participating in a research study that might help your child’s response to stress?
Vicki Steine, LCSW and Doctoral Candidate in Holistic Nutrition at Parkaire Consultants is working on her dissertation. She would like to evaluate the effect of supplements that support the adrenal glands called adaptogens in children with neurological and mood disorders. She is currently recruiting families willing to participate in her study. She is looking for children ages 8-17, diagnosed with multiple neurological and/or mood disorders that are having trouble getting up in the morning and/or who have “storms” in the evenings. Children may continue with their current medications.
The children will:
- Spit into a test tube four times in 24 hours to measure cortisol levels at the beginning and end of the study (no shots!).
- Take a 30 minute battery of tests on a computer at the beginning and end of the study.
- Take several supplements daily for 90 days.
The parents will:
- Meet with Vicki either by phone or in person to understand the study fully.
- Fill out appropriate paperwork before beginning your child in the study.
- Fill out a brief questionnaire on a computer at the beginning and end of the 90 days.
The study will start in August when school starts.
There is no cost to you! The supplements, cortisol testing and neurocognitive testing on the computer are being supplied by Xymogen, Dr. Cheryl Burdette, N.D. and CNS Vital Signs respectively.
Please contact Vicki at 770-578-1519 or by email at Staff@ParkaireConsultants.com to express your interest. She will contact you as soon as possible to interview your family and determine if you are a good fit for the study.
